Philippians 4:4-7 - Rejoice, Again I Say Rejoice

Philippians 4:4-7

NKJV

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

NLT

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

It can at times be hard to think about rejoicing.  Our circumstances can seem overwhelming. It may look like the devil is winning. It may look like the cancer is in control; that your life is in chaos; that your family is falling apart; all kinds of things happen in this life. Shucks, a whole book of the bible is called Lamentations; the laments of the Israelites. You may just feel like you want to give up, crawl in a hole and die.

But God…is still on the throne and He still loves you and me. When we walked through Felicia’s cancer diagnosis God really spoke to me about rejoicing and staying faithful.  Was it hard…for sure! But as I write this, I am a little broken hearted with some friends of ours. They are going though it right now and can use all the prayers you can lift up. Be encouraged, God is still God. Read the verses below, these are a few that my Bride and walked through her cancer with.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

John 16:33

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you [f]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Psalm 103:11-12

For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

2 Samuel 7:28

“And now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.

Psalm 9:1-2

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

Psalm 4:3-4

But know that the Lord has [c]set apart for Himself him who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him. Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah

Hebrews 12:1-3

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.  For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from the sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

2 Chronicles 16:9

"For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His."

Psalm 119:49-50

Remember the word to Your servant, Upon which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life.

Psalm 126:2-3

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with the songs of joy.  Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them”.  The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.

Rejoice, again I say Rejoice,
